How Maldivian Hospitality Led an Italian Man to Islam

The Maldives, famous for its stunning beaches and luxury resorts, is also home to some of the kindest and most hospitable people. A recent story of an Italian traveller highlights how the generosity and Islamic values of Maldivians led him to explore Islam—and ultimately embrace it.

A Life-Changing Experience in the Maldives

An Italian man, recently engaged, visited the Maldives with his fiancée. While snorkelling, she lost her phone in the reef, which contained all their cherished memories. With no backup, they had little hope of recovering it.

However, upon hearing their distress, a Maldivian local and his friends searched for hours to retrieve the phone. Despite the couple insisting that they didn’t need to exhaust themselves, the locals persisted—and finally found the phone intact, thanks to its waterproof case.

This act of selfless kindness deeply touched the Italian traveller.

Reflecting on his journey, he wondered:
“Are you guys all this nice because you’re Muslim? If so, sign me up.”

This moment encouraged him to extend his stay in Male’ to learn more about Islam and officially revert to Islam.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized kindness and helping others, as seen in this hadith:
